A purebred race machine

The Niner Air 9 RDO is a full-on XC race machine. There is no question that Niner has mastered the art of the 29er hardtail, yet they continue to evolve and refine their craft. The Air 9 RDO features fully-housed internal cable routing, new carbon layup, smaller junctions, tapered headtube, a PF30 carbon bottom bracket shell and 12x148mm rear spacing. Niner decided to go with a boost rear end because it reduces any twisting motion and allows for the use of wider/stronger built wheels.

The Air 9 RDO frame features Niner’s Race Day Optimized carbon fiber frame production process known as Carbon Compaction System. Niner’s Carbon Compaction System uses a pre-shaped Styrofoam mold encased by a bladder that the carbon is then laid around. The firm Styrofoam core provides the desired shape of the frame and a solid platform for the carbon lay. The bladder is then inflated to fully compress the carbon against the outer metal mold for accurate compaction and a smooth inside wall, producing a fruitful list of benefits. First, it sets the carbon in the exact position it should be in without any shifting from a bladder inflating after layup. Secondly, it reduces the amount of excess resin to pool inside the frame, meaning lighter weight and less wasting. Lastly, it enables the inside wall to be free of wrinkles and loose fibers, resulting in fewer potential weak spots. Bigger is still better. Keep pedaling damn it!

The Niner Air 9 RDO 4-Star build is outfitted with host of components that will keep you steadily pedaling toward the podium. Starting off with a Shimano XT drivetrain that sports a huge 12-speed gear range that will allow to easily spin your way through any grade of terrain. The Fox 32 SC Factory fork makes quick work of trail chatter keeping your wheel tracking smoothly in the intended direction. The DT-Swiss M1900 wheelset wrapped in Maxxis rubber spin fast and smooth providing the traction needed to confidently attack demanding terrain. When it comes time to slow things down, Shimano XT brakes will get you stopped on a dime in any condition. Topped off with Niner branded cockpit, the Air 9 RDO will have you leaving your riding buddies in the dust.
